Find out What’s Happening – City Council Information

 Are you interested in finding out what topics are scheduled at upcoming City Council meetings?  Sign up to receive weekly “Neighborhood Leader Updates.” Anyone can sign up or change your subscription to Neighborhood Services materials here.  Each "Neighborhood Leader Update”  includes a link to the upcoming City Council Agenda, reports of interest to neighborhood associations, and important City information.

July 14 - Bill Riegel Park Celebration!

The Bill Riegel opening celebration will be held this Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the park, 4567 Campbell Drive SE.  View the flyer.

July 14 – South Salem Neighborhood BBQ and Walk

The South Salem Neighborhood Association is holding their 3rd annual BBQ and potluck and continuing the Healthiest Neighborhood Campaign with a walk.  The events are at Fircrest Park, 955 Luradel St. S., this Saturday at noon.

July 17 - Unified Development Code Public Hearing

 First Installment of Unified Development Code Chapters Scheduled for Public Hearing

The Planning Commission public hearing on the proposed amendments is scheduled for Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.

The proposed amendments, which establish eight new chapters of the UDC and amend the City procedures ordinance (SRC Chapter 300), and other chapters of the Salem Revised Code, to conform to the proposed new UDC chapters, are included in Ordinance Bill No. 12-12.  The June 25th Council staff report and draft ordinance can be viewed by clicking here
Subsequent to the public hearing, the Planning Commission will forward their recommendation to the City Council, who will then hold a public hearing and take final action on the proposed amendments.

Host Families Needed, Cultural Homestay International

Each summer, Cultural Homestay International (CHI) invites dozens of foreign exchange students to come to the United States and immerse themselves in a 4 week intensive English class.  As of now, several students still need a place to live during this school session. If interested, please contact Marlene Fuller, Academic Coordinator, at 503-640-3252 and she will provide details such as length of the stay, arrival and departure, class schedules times and locations as well as answer any questions you may have. Projects Needed for Late August College Engagement

HandsOn Mid-Willamette Valley is collecting projects for Willamette University’s Opening Days and Corban University’s New Student Week.  If you would like to host a group, fill out this project proposal form.  Contact Melissa Gibler at Melissa.Gibler@mwvcaa.org  for more information or to return the forms.  You can send multiple project options on the same sheet, however, please send separate sheets for each date.

Willamette University: Monday, August 27th 3:30-5:30.  Groups have about 14 volunteers in them.

Corban University: Tuesday, August 28th 9:30-12:00.  Groups have about 17 volunteers in them.

August 22 - City Volunteer Recognition Event

Nominations for the Volunteer Recognition Awards are due to the City Manager’s Office by Wednesday July 25.  You are invited to attend the Volunteer Recognition Event that will be held at the Civic Center on Wednesday, August 22 from 5:00 - 6:30 pm.  All the information is in the flyer here.
